Hawai'i residents urged to serve on state boards

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i residents are being urged to submit their names to serve on any of more than 100 different state boards and commissions.

There are 377 vacancies in a diverse field of panels including the board of the Agribusiness Development Corp., the state Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, the Contractors License Board, the Radiologic Technology Board and the Statewide Council on Independent Living. Overall, there are openings in 123 of 137 boards and commissions overseen by the governor's office, Gov. Linda Lingle said yesterday.

Members serve from two to six years and do so on a voluntary basis.

"Boards and commissions are a key element of our state government, and serving as a board or commission member is one of the best ways for a concerned citizen to have a role in improving our communities and making Hawai'i a better place to live and work," Lingle said.

A complete list of boards and commissions and an application can be found on the governor's

Web site at: www.hawaii.gov/gov/team/boardscommissions.html. The list and applications can also be found at the governor's office and lieutenant governor's offices throughout the state.
