Coolen selects five seniors to captain Rainbow Wahine

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine softball seniors Tracie Uchima, Noelle Izumi, Denise Dahlberg, Melissa Coogan and Shannon Tabion will be team captains this season, according to coach Bob Coolen.

Uchima, a rightfielder, will be responsible for the outfielders; second baseman Izumi will lead the infielders; Dahlberg will handle the catchers; and Coogan and Tabion will guide the pitching staff.

"Our team, and this senior class in particular, is so tightly knit that we felt naming the seniors as the captains would provide us solid, veteran leadership across the board," Coolen said.

Hawai'i will host exhibition games against its alumnae on Jan. 29 and Hawai'i Pacific on Feb. 1 at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hawai'i opens the season with the 9th annual Hawai'i Paradise Classic, Feb. 3 to 6. Joining Hawai'i are Oregon, Washington, Jacksonville University, and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort-Wayne.
