Ostrowski helps Punahou edge Kamehameha, 46-43

Advertiser Staff

Miah Ostrowski scored on a 10-foot baseline jumper and a free throw with six seconds remaining last night to lift the Punahou School boys basketball team to a 46-43 victory over Kamehameha.

The visiting Buffanblu improved to 2-0 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, while the Warriors fell to 1-1.

Ostrowski, a first-team Advertiser All-State selection last season as a freshman, was shut out for the first three periods but finished with seven points in the decisive fourth quarter.

"The thing I'm proud about Miah tonight is that despite having some issues on offense, his focus was on winning the game," Punahou coach Greg Tacon said. "(Kamehameha) had a good plan — they extended their zone and did a great job on defense."

The Warriors had tied the score at 43 on Ikaika Hardie's 3-pointer with 1:14 left and had a chance to win after gaining possession with 53 seconds, but Ka'ohu Berg-Hee made a steal off a cross-court pass to give the ball back to Buffanblu with 28 seconds remaining.

After Ostrowski converted his three-point play, Kamehameha was unable to take a final shot.

With Ostrowski struggling from the field, fellow sophomore Spencer McLachlin scored a game-high 22 points and helped Punahou rally from deficits of 9-0 and 18-7 in the first period.

Rykin Enos led the Warriors with 14 points.
