Elderly woman hit by a car

An elderly woman was critically injured this morning after she stepped off the curb at the intersection of Kuakini Street and Nuçuanu Avenue about 5:30 a.m. and was hit by a passing car.

The woman was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center, police said.



Van hits woman fleeing a store

A 27-year-old woman was seriously injured at Pearlridge Mall yesterday after she ran from one of the stores and was run over by a van, police said.

The woman is suspected of stealing items from one of the stores. The woman ran toward the van about 5:30 p.m. but slipped and was run over as she attempted to enter it, police said. The man driving the van took off, running over the woman, and had not been identified as of this morning police said.

The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center and remained there this morning in serious condition with broken ribs and head injuries police said.

When she recovers sufficiently, the woman will likely be charged with second-degree theft, police said.



Woman held in fraud, theft case

Charges of forgery, identity theft and theft are pending against a 42-year-old O'ahu woman who allegedly tried to use a stolen check and bogus identification documents to purchase items at the Royal Kunia Wal-Mart store yesterday.

A clerk noticed irregularities in the check and the state identification card the woman was using when she went through a checkout lane about 4:40 p.m..

Store security workers detained the woman until police arrived and arrested her.



Burglary suspect chased, captured

Police arrested a 48-year man on suspicion of burglary after they found him on the roof of a Honolulu jewelry store yesterday morning.

Police officers responding to an alarm at the store saw the man jump from the roof and run, but caught up with him moments later.

A check of the store showed signs of forced entry and that jewelry had been taken, police said.

They arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree burglary.



Wai'anae man held in break-in

A 28-year-old Wai'anae man was arrested as a suspect in a home break-in Manoa early this morning.

A 32-year-old woman told police she was sleeping in her home about 3:20 a.m. when she heard her bedroom door open, saw a flashlight beam and heard someone running down the hallway.

The woman called police who determined the intruder had entered through an unlocked back door and that the woman's cellular telephone had been taken.

Police found the suspect nearby, seized the cell phone and arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree burglary.



Woman held in stolen-car case

A 24-year-old Wai'anae woman was arrested about 11 p.m. last night in Wai'anae as a suspect in a stolen-car case.

A patrol officer noticed the woman was driving the car without its headlights on. The officer turned on his flashing lights, ordered the driver to pull over and checked on the car's registration.

After learning the car had been reported stolen, the officer arrested the driver for suspicion of unlawful control of a propelled vehicle.
