Ceiling collapses at Kailua Intermediate

Advertiser Staff

A ceiling in a classroom at Kailua Intermediate School collapsed today, sending a teacher and eight students to Castle Medical Center with minor injuries and abrasions, emergency medical personnel said.

The accident happened at about noon in a classroom in building C. School officials evacuated the building.

There were about two-dozen students and a teacher in the classroom at the time. Seventeen students and the teacher were exposed to dust from the ceiling. It was not known if the dust was a hazardous material. Officials are testing the substance to see if there is any danger from exposure to it.
