Couple's actions lead to arrests
A Wahiawa man and a Salt Lake woman, who called attention to themselves when they had difficulty parking their car at a Kunia shopping center, were arrested yesterday on suspicion of operating a stolen car, breaking into a car and detaining stolen property.
Police said the couple went to the shopping center about 1 a.m. and caught the eye of a witness while parking their car. The witness called police when he saw the pair walking suspiciously toward a townhouse complex down the road from the shopping center.
Officers arrived just in time to see the man, 22, and woman, 18, headed back to their car with their arms full of various items. Officers quickly confirmed that the car the couple arrived in was stolen and a search of the area around the townhouse complex turned up a car that had been broken into.
The car's registered owner was contacted and confirmed that items were taken from the car, at which point the two were arrested.
