Advertiser Staff

More people in Japan watched a taped broadcast of last year's Honolulu Marathon than the year before, marathon officials said.

A 55-minute broadcast of the 2004 Honolulu Marathon by the Tokyo Broadcasting System on Monday reached 2.41 million households, while 2.25 million households watched the 2003 marathon. The highest viewership of the TBS broadcast was in Japan's Kanto area, which includes the Tokyo metropolis and six other prefectures.

The annual broadcast shows scenes along the 26.2-mile marathon route, which includes downtown, Waikiki, Diamond Head, Kahala, Hawai'i Kai and Kapi'olani Park.
