Koko Head kids get special thrill

Koko Head is serving as the setting for a "Lost" scenario. Filming was in progress yesterday at a Hawai'i Kai park near Koko Head Elementary School, off Lunalilo Home Road.
The segment featured Daniel Dae Kim, who portrays Jin, the angry half of a Korean couple, on the hit show about survivors of a plane crash on a deserted island. An airdate is not yet known, though it's likely to be during the February Nielsen sweeps.
The park sequence will be part of a flashback scene involving the Jin character, since "Lost" incorporates "city" scenes in retrospective moments before the passengers and plane wound up on the South Pacific beach (actually Mokule'ia) where most of the action takes place.
Koko Head principal Cecilia Lum said the "Lost" crew "was nice and cordial, inviting us to breakfast (the catering tent was on campus).
"We told our students, who normally use the park, not to bother the show, since it's good for Hawai'i," said Lum. "And we were thrilled that Ryan Hoke, a former Koko Head student who now is with Grass Skirt Productions, was part of the crew and came over to say hello."
The lights, cameras and vans were assembled for a sequence of an episode titled "In Translation," according to an ABC spokesman.
