BEST BETS

John Naisbitt, author of the best-selling book "Megatrends," will discuss trends shaping the early years of the 21st century — as described in his latest book, "The Elephant in the Boa Constrictor" — at a public forum. The discussion, "Evolutionary Trends and Future Mindsets," hosted by Japan-America Institute of Management Science, will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at The Halekulani hotel. "Megatrends" spent 60 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list in the early 1980s. In it, Naisbitt correctly predicted: a shift from the industrial age to the information age; the advent of national economies into a global economy; and networks affording global access to goods, services and data — now known as the Internet. Among sponsors of the discussion are AIG Hawaii, First Insurance Co. of Hawaii, Hawaiian Host Inc. and Island Insurance Companies Ltd. Fee. Reservations: Roxanne Kam, 396-7130.
