WEATHER
High surf closes some beaches

Advertiser Staff

It wasn't as huge as originally forecast, but high surf nonetheless prompted officials to close beaches along O'ahu's North Shore yesterday.

With surf in the 20-foot range, Laniakea, Shark's Cove and Sunset Beach were closed first, and at about 4 p.m. officials closed Waimea Bay, Chun's Reef and Three Tables.

Last week, weather forecasters predicted that 30- to 40-foot waves would arrive yesterday.

A high-surf warning remained in effect for north- and west-facing shores, with 25- to 35-foot surf predicted for north shores today, decreasing to 20 to 25 feet tomorrow.
