Miyashiro honored by Gatorade

Kalani High School senior Tamari Miyashiro was named the 2004 Gatorade State Volleyball Player of the Year for Hawai'i.

Miyashiro, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter/setter, was named the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's Eastern Division Player of the Year.

Previous winners of the award were Aneli Cubi-Otineru (2003, Punahou), Tuli Peters (2002, Kahuku) and Kanoe Kamana'o (2001, Iolani).



BOXING

Rodrigues is most outstanding amateur

Brent Rodrigues of Palolo Boxing Club was named outstanding boxer of the Hawai'i-USA Amateur Championship held Friday and Saturday at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i.

Rodrigues won the 152-pound weight division.

Kawano/Tiki Ent. Boxing Club won four of the eight weight classes.

Champions advance to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the 2005 U.S. Championships to be held March 13 to 20.
