ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
'Coach Carter' tops box office

Advertiser Staff

In a surprise over the weekend, it was the basketball drama "Coach Carter," pictured, and not the Jennifer Garner action flick "Elektra" that topped the box office, reports Zap2it.com.

The Paramount film starring Samuel L. Jackson (pictured) as a basketball coach who benches his entire team for poor grades scored with approximately $23.6 million, according to Exhibitor Relations.

"Meet the Fockers" dropped to No. 2 for the first time in four weeks since its debut with $19 million. The talking animal comedy "Racing Stripes" beat out contenders for third place, taking in $14 million. "In Good Company" took in $13.9 million. "Elektra" barely made it into the Top 5 with a measly $12.5 million.

FINAL WORD

Karyn Kusama | director of the sci-fi thriller "Aeon Flux," which stars Charlize Theron, pictured, as the heroine.

"She's part assassin, part manic-depressive. She's complicated — she's not Charles Bronson in a catsuit."
