Kapolei may get 2nd self-storage facility

Add more self-storage space to the growing list of planned developments in Kapolei.

Local development firm Pacific Land & Investment LLC said it is negotiating to lease a 2.5-acre site from an affiliate of Kapolei master developer Campbell Estate for construction of a nearly 100,000-square-foot self-storage facility.

The single-story complex is scheduled to start construction in December next to Seagull Schools across Farrington Highway from Kapolei Shopping Center.

Campbell Estate spokeswoman Theresia McMurdo said that because lease negotiations with Pacific Land are pending, she could not comment on the company's plans.

If built as expected, Pacific Land's planned facility, Stor Secure Self-Storage of Kapolei, would be the second large-scale storage facility in the growing "second city," and join a host of other planned additions including a regional mall, hundreds of homes, a retirement community, road extensions better connecting the central business district and possibly a Wal-Mart.

Annette Pang, a Pacific Land principal, said immediate and projected demand for self-storage space by residential and commercial customers in the area drove the decision to increase storage facilities in Kapolei.

AAAAA Rent-A-Space, one of the nation's largest independent developers of self-storage facilities, opened a 130,000-square-foot facility west of Kapolei Shopping Center in 2000.
