SURFING

Backdoor closed

There will be no champion this year for Da Hui Backdoor Shootout surfing contest.

The two-week holding period for the event ended yesterday, and conditions were never sufficient enough during that time frame to run even one day of competition.

Contest officials said the event will try to run again next year.
