Advertiser Staff and News Services

Mirah wears glasses, has red hair, plays acoustic guitar and 'ukulele and once sang with a band called The Microphones. Her record company bio reveals she "prefers privacy to invasion and reconciliation to war."

Mirah's a Portland, Ore.-based indie singer/songwriter whose 2004 debut, "C'mon Miracle," offers a coffeehouse-ready blend of various musical genres and instrumental choices. She plays thirtyninehotel tonight along with The Blow and local bands Linus, My Ex Is Dead, The Manner and DJ Sleeze. Mirah and The Blow play Club Pauahi on Saturday with The Hell Caminos, Vax and DJ Sleeze. Both shows start at 10 p.m., cost $10 and are for all ages.

Gifts for the groomsmen

Put down the engraved flask. No more key chains, cuff links or beer mugs. Attendants deserve better — and grooms can do better. Finding a gift for a best man or usher can become an 11th-hour ordeal.

Lisa Arbetter, executive editor of men's magazine Cargo, suggests you think about the individual. For the carnivore, perhaps a meat thermometer and gift certificate for Niman Ranch meat (www.nimanranch.com). For the sports junkie, a personalized NBA replica jersey or game tickets. Or to make sure the men in the bridal party are presentable, buy each a certificate for a hot lather shave.
