Westerman is new Kaua'i fire chief

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Mayor Bryan Baptiste has named Robert Westerman, former fire chief at the Pacific Missile Range Facility, as head of the Kaua'i Fire Department. He replaces Dennis Furushima, who retires at the end of the month.

The incoming chief has more than 20 years' experience in firefighting and emergency medical response. He has been trained in handling hazardous materials, terrorism response, rescue and other fields.
