Police still seeking tour van kidnapping suspects

Police are continuing to look for two men suspected of kidnapping three girls and a man who were in a tour van when it was stolen from Kahe Point Beach Park last week.

The kidnapping victims were released unharmed moments after the van was taken about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. One took the van while the other drove a getaway car.

Police circulated composite sketches of the kidnappers and have been inundated with tips in the case.

Investigators believed they were closing in on two possible suspects Friday, but the men provided alibis for their whereabouts at the time the van was taken.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.



Man arrested in Kapolei car break-in

A 30-year-old man was arrested last night for a car break-in on Lanakoi Street in Kapolei.

Police said a woman told her husband she saw a man sitting in their car. The husband, 30, went outside and confronted the man, who ran away. The husband chased after the suspect, caught him and held him until police arrived.

A check of the couple's car showed nothing was missing although it appeared to have been searched and the driver's door lock was damaged.



Police arrest man who tried to cash bad check

A 41-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning after allegedly trying to cash a bad check at the American Savings Bank branch in Foodland at the Market City Shopping Center in Kapahulu.

Police said the man approached a teller about 10:25 a.m. and attempted to cash a check that had been drawn on a Honolulu woman's account. He was arrested and later released without charges pending further investigation.



Kaimuki resident catches burglar

A Kaimuki man took matters into his own hands yesterday and held a burglar he had found in his home until police arrived.

Police said the 41-year-old homeowner was in his bedroom when he heard noises coming from another room about 11:50 a.m. He went to investigate and saw an intruder rummaging through a dresser. The burglar ran out of the house but was nabbed by the homeowner, who held him until officers arrived.

The 26-year-old suspect was arrested for first-degree burglary.



Man helps police nab suspect in Waikele car break-in

A 30-year-old Wai'anae man was arrested yesterday as a suspect in a car break-in that occurred early Sunday morning in a residential area of Waikele.

A 28-year-old woman returned home about 3 a.m. with her boyfriend and saw the man sitting in the passenger seat of her car.

The woman's boyfriend confronted the man and detained him until police arrived.



Makiki man arrested for assault on wife

A 50-year-old man was arrested in Makiki yesterday after his 49-year-old wife said he hit her on the back of the head with a bank bag.

Police said the incident happened about 9:10 a.m. in the 1300 block of Makiki Street. The wife received cuts and scratches to her neck, police said, and the husband was arrested for second-degree assault.



Traffic incident leads to gun threat, ends in arrest

A 62-year-old Kane'ohe man was arrested last night after allegedly pointing a gun at a 26-year-old man following a traffic incident.

Police said the two men began arguing and that the younger man followed the older man to his home on Waikalua Road in Kane'ohe. The older man went inside and allegedly returned with a handgun, threatening to shoot the other man, police said.

Police arrived and arrested the older man for suspicion of failing to properly store a firearm and first-degree terroristic threatening.



Man arrested after beer bottle fight

A 25-year-old man was arrested in Waikiki early this morning after allegedly hitting a 26-year-old man on the head with a beer bottle during an argument.

Police arrested the younger man for suspicion of second-degree assault.



Waikiki robbery suspects caught

Police arrested two men, ages 18 and 19, as suspects in the robbery Sunday night of a 21-year-old man in the 2100 block of Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki.

The robbery victim told police two men approached him while he was walking at about 11 p.m. and demanded money. The victim complied with the demand and called 911. Police quickly located the two suspects, who were arrested for second-degree robbery.



Kalihi man arrested in car theft

Police arrested a 27-year-old Kalihi man early this morning as a suspect in a car theft.

A patrol officer said he saw the suspect at about 12:30 a.m. looking under the hood of a car and decided to check on the license plate number. The check showed the car had been reported stolen and the man was arrested.



Police investigate find of human bones

Police were responding this morning to a report that human bones were found at the "Police Beach" in Hale'iwa.

Investigators were trying to determine if the bones were from someone recently deceased or were an ancient burial, although the latter seems most likely, police said.
