ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Make a home to-do list

Advertiser Staff

Among the must-dos in your quest for simplicity: "Take inventory of everything in your home that needs to be fixed or updated," said Jeff Davidson, author of "The Joy of Simple Living."

Examine your home room by room and jot down everything that needs to be done, such as fixing a leaky faucet, clearing out a closet or sweeping the garage floor.

"When you're done, you'll have a to-do list that will make your home the kind of place you want it to be," Davidson said.

Volunteer with your kids

If you resolved to make a difference in your community this year, involve the whole family. Here are ideas for things you can do with the kids along, from Parents magazine:

• Volunteer to care for abandoned dogs or cats.

• Visit a nursing home.

• Pick up litter at a park.

• Deliver meals to homebound people.

• Read books to children in a hospital.

Final word

Rosario Dawson | 25, actress from "Alexander" and "Men in Black II," on eating organic foods, in Organic Style magazine:

"I still eat fried chicken, and rice and beans, but the burst of flavor in your mouth from organic fruit and vegetables is incredible — you forget that anything can be that good."
