6-foot-4 receiver commits to Warriors

A 6-foot-4 wide receiver from Seattle told The Advertiser he will accept a football scholarship from the University of Hawai'i.

"Yep, I'm going there," said Jordan Slye, who played at the University of Washington as a freshman and at Compton College this past fall.

Slye, who can run 40 yards in 4.5 seconds, said he was impressed with UH coach June Jones, the Warriors' four-wide passing offense and Hawai'i's lifestyle.

"Every morning I woke up," Slye said of his recently completed recruiting trip, "I said, 'Man, I'm in Hawai'i.' It was just so beautiful. The people, the atmosphere, the weather, I love everything about Hawai'i."

Slye played quarterback at Franklin High in Seattle. At Washington, he played safety before moving to wide receiver.

But when Washington changed head coaches, Slye opted to leave.

"It didn't work out," he said.

Slye also is an active cyclist. His father was the high school football coach of New England Patriots running back Corey Dillon. He also is related to the producers of the "House Party" movies.
