Hybrid bus route moves out of downtown

Advertiser Staff

One of the city's most heavily used bus routes — from Waipahu to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa — will now have additional buses to handle the load, city officials announced today.

The city's new, 75-passenger, hybrid diesel-electric buses had been running from downtown Honolulu to Waikiki in the newly created Route E. They debuted in November.

The change to Route A will take effect by Feb. 1, a news release said.

"Reassigning these buses to one of the most heavily used routes makes the most of the city's investment in them," Mayor Mufi Hannemann said in the release.
