Arrest made in Kalihi shooting

One man was arrested last night after shots were fired at a Kalihi home.

Police said two groups of people got in an argument near a home on Kilohana Street at about 6:30 p.m. Members of one group got into a car and someone fired at least two shots at the other group that was in a garage, police said.

No one was injured.

Police last night arrested one man on suspicion of attempted murder and reckless endangering.



Motorcyclist dies after crash

HILO, Hawai'i — A 70-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday after a crash on Kohala Mountain Road, about three-tenths of a mile north of the seven-mile marker.

Police said Harry P. Hogan of Kailua, Kona, lost control of his southbound 2003 Harley-Davidson at 12:40 p.m. and ran off the road. He was pronounced dead at 1:51 p.m. at North Hawai'i Community Hospital.

Hogan's death was the first traffic fatality of the year.



Man arrested in car break-in

A 30-year-old man was arrested Sunday night after a car break-in on Lanakoi Street in Kapolei.

Police said a woman told her husband she saw a man sitting in their car. The husband, 30, went outside and confronted the man, who ran away. The husband chased after the intruder, caught him and held him until police arrived.

A check of the couple's car showed nothing was missing although it appeared to have been searched and the driver's door lock was damaged.



Kaimuki resident catches burglar

A Kaimuki man took matters into his own hands Sunday and held a burglar he had found in his home until police arrived.

Police said the 41-year-old homeowner was in his bedroom when he heard noises coming from another room about 11:50 a.m. He went to investigate and saw an intruder rummaging through a dresser. The burglar ran out of the house but was nabbed by the homeowner, who held him until officers arrived.

The 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.



Bones found at Hale'iwa beach

Police responded yesterday morning to a report that human bones were found at the "Police Beach" in Hale'iwa.

Investigators were trying to determine if the bones were from someone recently deceased or were an ancient burial, although the latter seems most likely, police said.



Gun incident leads to arrest

A 62-year-old Kane'ohe man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly pointing a gun at a 26-year-old man after a traffic incident.

Police said the two men began arguing and that the younger man followed the older man to his home on Waikalua Road in Kane'ohe. The older man went inside and allegedly returned with a handgun, threatening to shoot the other man.

Police arrived and arrested the older man on suspicion of failing to properly store a firearm and first-degree terroristic threatening.



Suspect held in car theft

Police arrested a 27-year-old Kalihi man yesterday morning as a suspect in a car theft.

A patrol officer said he saw the suspect at about 12:30 a.m. looking under the hood of a car and decided to check on the license plate number. The check showed the car had been reported stolen and the man was arrested.



Waikiki robbery suspects caught

Police arrested two men, ages 18 and 19, as suspects in the robbery Sunday night of a 21-year-old man in the 2100 block of Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki.

The robbery victim told police two men approached him while he was walking at about 11 p.m. and demanded money. The victim complied with the demand and called 911. Police soon after arrested two men on suspicion of robbery.
