BUSINESS BRIEF
Union objects to airline's plan

Advertiser Staff and News Services

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, which last week voted against further labor concessions to Hawaiian Airlines, filed notice yesterday objecting to Hawaiian's plan to emerge from bankruptcy.

The union had withdrawn an earlier objection to the plan after reaching a tentative new agreement with Hawaiian. But IAM officials reasserted their objection yesterday after rejection of the tentative agreement.

The union represents about 1,250 clerical, office, store, fleet and passenger-service employees and another 350 mechanical and related employees. Before Hawaiian filed for bankruptcy protection in 2003, IAM members agreed to concessions worth about $3.8 million.
