Men's top seed falls at Waikoloa tourney
Top-seeded Alex Bogomolov Jr. was upset by Austrian Zbynek Mlynarik, 6-1, 7-5, during the second day of the Hilton Waikoloa Village USTA Challenger at the Kohala Tennis Club yesterday on the Big Island.
The two had met before in a previous Challenger tournament, with the same result.
"Because I had beaten him before, I was confident going in that I could win," Mlynarik said. "This is a big win for me."
In the women's draw, top-seed Marie-Eve Pelletier handily defeated Tetiana Luzhanska of Ukraine, 6-3, 6-1.
Competition continues today at 10 a.m.
