Most people naturally assume that the best way to remove a stain is to grab the nearest napkin or towel, dip it in water, and rub until the stain is gone.
Never rub. Blot instead, and always think twice before using water. Rubbing breaks surface fibers, which lose dye and become abraded. It's best to take better garments to a dry cleaner immediately.

Broadway star Carol Channing talking about her relationship with the late Johnny Carson: "He didn't like me, I didn't like him. I was opening 'Hello, Dolly!' ... I wanted to tell him how thrilling it was, but he wouldn't let me. But he said his mother might be interested, so I ... said, 'Mother, dear, we opened "Hello, Dolly!" last night, and it's a wonderful show.' I got him so angry; he never asked me back, and he's gone now. But I respect his honesty."
