Call For Docents

Friends of 'Iolani Palace offers training classes for new docents which will include lectures and activities on the palace and an overview of Hawaiian history and culture, development of public speaking skills including Hawaiian pronunciation, with on-site training and field trips to other historical sites. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays and 9-11:30 a.m. Thursdays, Feb. 28 through July 14. Call For Guides

Honolulu Academy of Arts seeks outgoing persons to serve as interpretive guides for the Doris Duke home, Shangri La. Responsibilities include leading tours of the home, informing visitors about Duke and her interest in art and how Islamic architecture and culture are expressed in her home. Guides are required to complete a training course to be held 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesdays, March 22 through May 24 and will then be expected to lead a minimum of two tours per week and will receive $25 per tour. Hawaii Student Digital Showcase television program, seeks submission of videotaped public service announcements, mini-documentaries, shorts, music videos and animation for airing on a weekly program on DOE Channel 56. Also, looking for male high school students to introduce the videos. 837-8004.

Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Cultural Foundation seeks film entries for the Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival to be held May 26-29. Entry forms available at www.hglcf.org or by calling 381-1952. Fees for entries postmarked by Feb. 15 are $15 for projects shorter than 30 minutes, $25 for projects longer than 30 minutes; entries postmarked by the March 15 deadline are $20 and $30 respectively (entry fees waived for all Hawai'i-based filmmakers).

Honolulu Printmakers seeks entries in hand-printmaking media for the 77th annual exhibit to be jurored by Kathan Brown and scheduled for Feb. 24-March 18 at the Academy Art Center at Linekona.
