UH plays Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Bracket Buster game

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team drew Wisconsin-Milwaukee as its opponent for the ESPN Bracket Buster Saturday game on Feb. 19 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The game will be televised on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPN Full Court. The television schedule — and thus the starting time for the game — will not be announced until next week.

Pairings for the 32 games in the Bracket Buster were announced today.

The UH athletic department is promoting the game as "Sell-Out Saturday," and all fans are being encouraged to wear green. Tickets, which range from $3 to $20, are on sale at the Stan Sheriff Center box office and online at hawaiiathletics.com.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee is 15-5 and in first place in the Horizon League at 8-2. Hawai'i is 12-5 and in fourth place in the Western Athletic Conference at 4-5.

"We're excited. What a great reward for our kids," UWM head coach Bruce Pearl said. "They have an excellent team and this creates an attractive match-up for television. If it requires going out to Hawai'i to get exposure nationally, it is very much worth it."

The Panthers will play a home game against Butler on Feb. 16, and will depart from Milwaukee to Honolulu the next day.

"There is always concern about the toll a long trip like this can take on your team, but our schedule is such that we don't play for a week after the trip," Pearl said. "Usually the trip becomes a problem on the way back, but we have a nice amount of time to readjust."

The 'Bows will have two home games surrounding the Bracket Buster game against UWM. They will host Boise State on Feb. 16, and then Texas-El Paso on Feb. 21.

Hawai'i is 1-1 in previous Bracket Buster games. The 'Bows won at Kent State in 2003, then lost at Southern Illinois last season. This is the first time Hawai'i will host a Bracket Buster game.

UWM is 0-2 in Bracket Buster games, with losses against Southern Illinois in 2003 and Manhattan last season.
