Achieving good health doesn't have to be a costly, complicated endeavor. Dr. Andrew Weil, editor of the publication Self Healing, offers a few ideas:

• Wash your hands often. Using soap and water is the most important thing you can do to ward off colds, flu and other infectious illnesses.

• Manage your appetite. Be conscious of portion sizes, and learn to eat when you're truly hungry.

• Take a daily walk. Walking outdoors is a great way to work off extra calories and get bone-building vitamin D from sunlight. Light is nature's mood booster.

What to do with your fast-growing gadget graveyard?

The Sierra Club's Hawai'i chapter encourages residents to help the environment and recycle old cellular phones, pagers, PDAs and chargers.

"When I was a child, I was outdoors a lot. We weren't allowed to watch TV. That's how I'm raising Dylan ... I'm constantly complimented on how sweet and good-natured my daughter is."
