Tonight's Must-See

Tonight on KHNL News 8

It's a night of Hawaiian music on KHNL's sister station KFVE, the Home Team. ÊTune in for Hot Hawaiian Nights live at the Mai Tai Bar and hear tunes from Sean Na'auao. The music begins at 7 p.m.

"In the Heat of the Night" (1967), 2:45, 9:15 p.m., AMC. On a quiet night (with TNT's "Into the West" taking a week off), we can catch one of the greatest films in Hollywood history. A Philadelphia detective (Sidney Poitier) and a bigoted Southern sheriff (Rod Steiger collide under Norman Jewison's deft direction.

"Hope & Faith," 7:30, 8 p.m., ABC. Both reruns center on Robert Wagner as the sisters' father. He's in love with their gynecologist (Jaclyn Smith) but tugged by a young ex-girlfriend (Jenny McCarthy).

Of Note

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004), 5 p.m., HBO. If you haven't seen this delightful film yet, catch it now. Charlie Kaufman wrote a brilliant, Oscar-winning script about people having painful relationships erased from their minds. Jim Carrey and (especially) Kate Winslet are superb.

"Child Prodigies," 7 p.m., CBS. This assembles portraits from CBS news magazines.

"JAG," 8 p.m., CBS. In this rerun, Jennifer Coates (Zoe McLellan) is confronted by someone from her criminal days.

"Toy Story 2" (1999), 9 p.m., Disney Channel. Like the original, this sequel has a witty script and great computer animation. A highlight has the toys finally visiting a store and seeing how popular they are.

"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. After a fatal train accident, the villain leaves a message in code in this rerun.

"Law & Order: Trial by Jury," 9 p.m., NBC. A multiple murderer has been released because some of the information was falsified. Now Kibre is determined to have a new trial, despite the fact that the witnesses are terrified and the defense lawyers are slick and expensive.
