POLICE BEAT
Age of human bones sought

Advertiser Staff

Homicide investigators are awaiting word from the city Department of the Medical Examiner on whether human bones found off Akamu Place in Nu'uanu are ancient or were deposited there more recently.

A 35-year-old man turned the bones over to police after he discovered them about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday while hiking through the area, police said.

Stabbing victim getting better

A 24-year-old woman is recovering from numerous stab wounds after her boyfriend abducted her Wednesday morning and then held her captive for several hours before dropping her off at a construction site in 'Ewa Beach, police said. Officers later discovered the man's body after he took his own life, police said.

Police said the boyfriend hid inside the woman's car and confronted her when she got into the car about 6:25 a.m.

Police said the woman's boyfriend forced her to remain in the front passenger seat while he drove around the Kaimuki area, slashing at her with a box cutter.

The man eventually headed for 'Ewa Beach to drop off the woman at a construction site where his father was working. The father took the injured woman to St. Francis Medical Center-West, where she was treated for numerous cuts to her hands and a deep stab wound to her left thigh.

Police were called to 'Ewa Beach Park a short time later and found the boyfriend's body after an apparent suicide.

Man allegedly assaulted girl

Police on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old Kalihi man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl on March 16.

Police said the suspect is the girl's ex-boyfriend and that she invited him to her house on the day in question.

The sexual assault is alleged to have taken place while the former boyfriend was visiting the girl's home, police said.

Members of the Kalihi police district crime reduction unit found the man Wednesday and arrested him for suspicion of second-degree sexual assault. He was released later without charges pending further investigation.
