ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Honu on their own
Advertiser Staff
Americans aren't the only ones celebrating freedom today.
Since 1989, the Mauna Lani has received juvenile honu from Sea Life Park on O'ahu and raised them in the saltwater ponds of the hotel. The honu are cared for until they grow to a size and weight deemed appropriate for release, which happens every July 4. The free festivities include an educational display, carnival games and entertainment. Details: (808) 885-6622.
If you're still trying to figure out what to bring to your neighbor's Fourth of July potluck, here's an easy idea from this month's issue of Real Simple magazine:
Fill a waffle cone with fruit salad for an instant party dessert that's high in fiber and melt-proof.
Bonus: no bowls to wash.
Franklin D. Roosevelt | 32nd president of the United States, in a speech given Sept. 22, 1936.
A group of honu Hawaiian green sea turtles will be released on the Big Island during "Turtle Independence Day," a celebration 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at the Mauna Lani Resort.
Fruity, crispy
