Lambert, partner win AVP event

Advertiser Staff

Punahou alum Mike Lambert and partner John Hyden beat second-seeded Dax Holdren and Jeff Nygaard in the final of the AVP Nissan Series Cincinnati Open yesterday.

The scores were 17-21, 21-12, 15-0.

It was Lambert's first win of the season after teaming with two other partners earlier in the year. He was the 2004 AVP Player of the Year.

Lambert and Hyden, the No. 12 seed, will split $28,000.

Punahou alum Stein Metzger and partner Jake Gibb, who have won two tournament titles this season, were eliminated earlier yesterday by Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena.

The AVP's next stop will be Friday to Sunday at Belmar, N.J. The tour's final stop will be in Honolulu on Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.
