Advertiser Staff

United Laundry Services is expanding to Kona on the Big Island this month with a new 35,000-square-foot facility.

United Laundry Services-Kona, LLC — a joint venture between United Holdings and Kobayashi Development Group — is the laundry company's first expansion to the Neighbor Islands. United Laundry Services, headed by president and CEO Vicky Cayetano, has been operating in Honolulu for 18 years, serving the hospitality and healthcare sectors.

United Laundry Services-Kona, which features technology that uses less than half the water required by older tunnel washers, will focus its marketing efforts on hotels along the Kohala Coast.

Magazine losing editorial chief

John Heckathorn, editorial director at PacificBasin Communications and editor of Honolulu Magazine, resigned effective July 15. The company is seeking new leadership, said President John Alves.

"I'm pleased to be leaving on a wave of success," said Heckathorn, who has been with Honolulu Magazine for 21 years. "The magazine is the best it's ever been both as a business and as an editorial product. ... I wish them well."

Honolulu magazine was acquired by PacificBasin in 2001 from Honolulu Publishing Co. According to an Audit Bureau of Circulation's statement ending Dec. 31, 2004, Honolulu has an average paid circulation of 29,362.
