Wie misses the PGA cut

Advertiser Staff

A few bad holes cost Honolulu's Michelle Wie a chance to become the first female in 60 years to make a 36-hole cut of a PGA Tour event.

The 15-year-old was on target to match the feat accomplished in 1945 by Babe Didrikson Zaharias at the Tucson Open.

With the cut at 3-under, Wie was at 4-under-par overall through 14 holes today.

But a double bogey on her 15th (she started on the back nine) and a bogey on the 16th doomed her chances.

The youngest player to make a PGA Tour cut was Bob Panasik, who was 15 years, 8 months and 20 days at the 1957 Canadian Open. Wie is 15 years, 8 months and 27 days old.

Wie finished the day at even-par 71. She finished 1-under for the tournament.
