A reprise of a local production and a timeless love story by Shakespeare are in store for theater fans in the next week.

'HALF DOZEN LONG STEM'

Kumu Kahua Theatre brings back Lee Cataluna's comedy focusing on the goings-on in a Ho-nolulu flower and lei shop.

The play, which made its debut in November, includes a colorful cast of characters, including Mrs. Fujiuchi, the shop owner; Roslyn, co-owner of the shop, who was married to Mrs. Fujiuchi's philandering, now-dead ex-husband; Romell, the flamboyant delivery man; Nornette, the salesclerk whose wedding is coming up; and Bertram, a regular customer who seems to be sending flowers to several women.

Director R. Kevin Doyle, who directed the November run, also guides this production; the entire cast also returns.

Playwright Cataluna also is an Advertiser columnist.

'ROMEO AND JULIET'

William Shakespeare's tale of love and revenge is the second of three productions in the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival, themed "Winter into Summer."

The drama involves two rival clans, the Montagues and Capulets, and the title characters, who fall in tragically in love despite the blood feud between their respective families. Tony Pisculli directs.

The festival began last week with "The Winter's Tale," continuing through July 24; and ends with "A Midsummer Night's Dream," beginning July 16.
