First Hawaiian Bank's deposit rate for savings accounts is 0.50 percent and for one-year certificates is 1.40 percent. A table on Page C1 yesterday was incorrect.
There was an error in the "Potato Simmer" recipe in Wednesday's Food for Thought column: The recipe should contain 1 1/2 tablespoons shoyu, not 1 1/2 cups. Here's the corrected recipe:
Peel 4 medium potatoes and cut into bite-size pieces; wash in cold water to remove starch and drain. Place potatoes in pot with 1 2/3 cup dashi or chicken broth, 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 1/2 tablespoons shoyu (it's important that you select a pot small enough so the broth just covers the potatoes). Cover with a drop lid. Simmer until potatoes are almost cooked. Remove from heat, uncover and cool. Reheat, covered with drop lid, and cook until soft and liquid is almost gone. Remove from heat, uncover and add 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons shoyu and 2 tablespoons butter, if used.
Kasit Piromya, Thailand's ambassador to the United States, encouraged the Thai Association of Hawaii to form a group to assist Hawai'i residents who are from Thailand. A story on Page One Tuesday contained incorrect information.
