Melveen Leed will perform at the Hale Makua Foundation's 17th annual 'Ohana Lu'au on July 31 at the Kihei Community Center on Maui.
The annual fundraiser, from 4:30 to 8 p.m., also will feature Uncle Richard Ho'opi'i and emcee Augie T., a silent auction and a country store.
Hale Makua, which means home of respected elders, is a private, nonprofit organization established in 1946 as a 24-bed nursing home. Since then it has grown to provide 362 beds in two facilities in Kahului and Wailuku, a home healthcare agency, adult daycare, foster family care and short-term respite care.
Local music diva Leed has been a frequent supporter of the annual fund-raiser and is back again this year as the featured performer. Leed is known for being one of the first winners of the Na Hoku Hanohano award, and has recorded dozens of albums with her unique Hawaiian-country style.
Proceeds from the 'Ohana Lu'au will go toward completion of a 16-bed rehabilitation unit in Kahului for patients needing intensive physical or occupational therapy before returning home.
Tickets are $45 ($20 tax-deductible) for adults and $15 ($5 tax-deductible) for children ages 2 to 10. To get tickets, visit Hale Makua or call (808) 871-9214.
