Chun in 2nd in women's Public Links

Kamehameha Schools graduate Mari Chun, 17, shot a 4-under 67 and is tied for second after the 29th U.S. Women's Amateur Public links Championship at Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo.

Chun, who will attend Stanford in the fall, registered four birdies, an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole and two bogeys.

She is tied with Tiffany Chudy of Miramar, Fla. Angela Park of Torrance, Calif., is first at 5-under 66.

"Overall, it was a pretty good day," Chun said on the USGA Web Site. "I wanted to shoot the best I could every day no matter what.  Never give up, of course, just keep going.  I don't set boundaries or scores.  I hope to shoot just as good or better (Tuesday)."

Chun was the best of the five Hawai'i golfers in the tournament.

Many of the field of 144 players are still competing, including 11-year-old Kaimuki Middle School student Cyd Okino, and Mariko Shimozaki, 21, a Seabury Hall and San Francisco alum.

Mariko Shimozaki, 21, a Seabury Hall and University of San Francisco alum, shot even-par 71 and is tied for 11th.

Cyd Okino, 11, a Kaimuki Middle School student, shot 4-over 75 and is tied for 51st.

Wailuku's Kelly Nakashima, 18, a Baldwin alum and Idaho sophomore, shot a 9-over 80 and is tied at 110.

Honolulu's Jandee Kim shot 18-over 89 and is tied for 142nd.
