HONOR BESTOWED ON DERMATOLOGIST
Dermatologist Norman Goldstein has been named a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. This is the first time the honor has been presented to a dermatologist for continued support of internal medicine, scholarly and community health activities.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Goldstein has been a Hawai'i resident since 1964 and is a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Hawai'i School of Medicine. He is in private practice in Honolulu's Chinatown district.
HMSA RECOGNIZES ANTI-DRUG EFFORTS
The Hawaii Medical Service Association has announced the winners of the 2005 Ola Pono Awards. Honored were nine people and organizations who help promote a drug-free Hawai'i.
Mark Stride, Rene Siracusa, Michael Ikeda, Frances Rivero and the Higa Family/Zippy's Restaurants received community awards.
Dennis Nishihara and Mililani Middle School's physical education department were recipients of the school awards, and Colleen Elfalan and Colette Miyamoto-Kajiwara received Hau Blossom Awards.
MAUI DISASTER CENTER LAUDED
The Pacific Disaster Center on Maui has been selected to receive a special achievement award from the Environmental Systems Research Institute for its use of Geographic Information System technology. PDC was chosen from among more than 100,000 users of GIS worldwide.
GIS is a powerful and versatile computer-driven mapping technology with broad applications in disaster planning and management.
