Honolulu police are looking into the weekend theft of computer equipment from two offices at Honolulu Hale, police and a city official said yesterday.
Sometime between July 8 and July 11 thieves broke into the customer services office on the third floor and the city clerk's office on the first floor. The thieves made off with a flat-screen monitor, four CPUs, a hard drive and other computer equipment.
City spokesman Bill Brennan said that no personal information or sensitive city files were stolen.
He said the type of material stolen could be used to modify or repair personal computers. Brennan also said that to his knowledge, no Watergate-type of conspiracy was at work.
"Two break-ins in three days in the last week has the mayor concerned," he said. "He's asked for a review of security at Honolulu Hale."
He said Mayor Mufi Hannemann was made aware of the break-ins as soon as they were discovered by city employees.
HPD spokeswoman Michelle Yu said the department is investigating.
