Chun advances to quarterfinals at Women's Publinx

Pearl City's Mari Chun advanced today to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championships at Kansas City, Mo.

Chun defeated Renee Skidmore of Everett, Wash., 1 up, in the second round of match play in the morning, then held off Hannah Jun of San Diego, 1 up, in the round of 16 in the afternoon.

Chun, who was co-medalist in stroke play with Angela Park, plays Jane Rah of Torrance, Calif., tomorrow in the quarterfinals. The semifinals will be played following the quarterfinals.

Mariko Shimozaki, of Kihei, Maui, lost to defending champion Ya-Ni Tseng, in the second round, 4 and 3. Shimozaki is a Seabury Hall graduate.

Chun, 17, has signed to play for Stanford in the fall.

The quarterfinalists of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships are guaranteed spots in next year's tournament.
