LOVE ACTUALLY: Jade Stice Cassie in the Castle Performing Arts Company's "A Chorus Line" (premiering July 22 at the Ronald E. Bright Theatre) will be married in September to James Finley Jr., a chiropractor-teacher, in ceremonies at Kealakekua Bay on the Big Island. Finley is the brother of Felicia Finley, who starred in "Aida" on Broadway. The nuptials will follow the closing of "A Chorus Line," and because the bride-to-be is immersed in rehearsals, Stice's sister, Paraluman Stice-Durkin, is coordinating the celebration. Another sister, Ligaya Stice, will fly in from Denver and re-establish her residency here as Dr. Ligaya Stice, at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children since she completed her doctoral studies as a pediatric anesthesiologist. ...
Ronald and Mo Bright marked their 45th wedding anniversary with a weekend at the Halekulani, complete with dinner, brunch and spa massages, courtesy Tony Young, Halekulani Spa director, who plays Mike in the Bright-directed "A Chorus Line." Mr. B actually suspended rehearsals to celebrate. ...
WHEE, THE PEOPLE: D.K. and Lori Kodama (he's the Sansei and d.k. Steakhouse owner-chef) welcomed Cashel Fumiko Kodama, who was born July 8 a couple of weeks earlier than anticipated. She weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 19 3/4 inches. Cashel healthy and beautiful joins the rest of the Kodama "cheeses": older sis Brie and brother Chev. D.K. is getting a lot of exposure this week on the Food Network's "The Secret Life Of ..." series on sushi, hosted by Jim O'Connor. ...
Jack Johnson and his family visited Dixie Grill on Ward Avenue recently, setting off a buzz among customers and staff. Meanwhile, Grill owner Ed Wary sent wife Tina and teen daughter Ellie on their first New York City trek while he was visiting his mom in Massachusetts, so the two checked out a pair of hot dining spots, Bobby Flay's "Bar Americain" on W. 52nd Street and The Modern at the Museum of Modern Art on W. 53rd. ...
Papa Roach members Jacoby Shaddix and Tobin Esperance brought their families to Sea Life Park. The rock musicians and their kids enjoyed the Dolphin Discovery Swim Program. Esperance also explored the underwater thrills of the Atlantis Submarines ride off Waikiki. ...
HERE 'N' THERE: Though both have excelled in films, local boys Jason Scott Lee and Mark Dacascos had never met till they played opposite each other in "The Nomad," an epic funded by the Kazakhstan government. Both Lee and Dacascos flew to Kazakhstan for the premiere. Lee, who resides at Volcano, on the Big Island, will be home in time for the inaugural launch of "Burn This," the Lanford Wilson drama, at 7:30 p.m. July 30 in the new Ulua Theatre that Lee built at Volcano Village. He appears as Pale in the production, and doubles as co-director with Justina Matthos. The cast includes Yasuko Takahara-Schlather as Anna, Mark L. Lewis as Burton and Ken Elliott as Larry. ...
Must have been the jet lag when we compiled (and messed up) our New York notes. We had lunch with Cris "Phantom" Groenendaal and wife Sue Anderson (who'll sub in the "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" pit as conductor) and had dinner with Craig "Jean Valjean" Schulman and wife Monica. And Sarah Richards, of course, is Hawai'i Theatre Center president, who hopes to see Groenendaal's and Schulman's "Three Phantoms" (with Kevin Gray) show here next January. ...
Marvin Rea, in Diamond Head Theatre's "Beauty and the Beast" ensemble, has lots of Disney experience that has been beneficial to the production opening tomorrow night. Now creative director for MC&A Inc., Rea had a 19-year career with Walt Disney Productions, playing characters like Goofy at Disneyland, and tending to props galore savvy that has come in handy for the costume of Pamela Young (as Madame de la Grande Bouche, the armoire) and the car of Belle's father. ...
