A 50-year-old tourist from Connecticut was robbed twice within minutes while walking along Ali'i Drive in Kailua, Kona, on the Big Island early yesterday.

According to police, Derrick Schull of Killingworth, Conn., was walking south on Ali'i Drive near Lunapule Road at about 3:25 a.m. when a dark-colored sport utility vehicle pulled alongside him. Three men in their 30s got out, forced Schull to give up his wallet and drove away, police said.

Five minutes later, four males came out from some bushes and demanded Schull's wallet. When he told them he had no wallet, two of them started punching and kicking him, police said.

After assaulting Schull, the second group of robbers fled. Police said two of them were young adults and two were juveniles. All wore surf shorts and two were not wearing shirts.

Schull suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
