A new program will help break in the University of Hawai'i's new tennis courts.

A Pau Hana Tennis Jam from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on July 22 at the Manoa courts is designed to introduce Hawai'i's inaugural Team Tennis on Campus program. The Jam is open to new and existing UH-Manoa students of all tennis abilities. Its intent is to promote the growth of recreational tennis.

The Jam will include prizes from Adidas and Wilson Racquet, and a Cardio Tennis demonstration, along with pupu, music and more. Each participant receives a t-shirt. The Jam is free if players register by tomorrow. It costs $2 the night of the event.

The coed Team Tennis on Campus league is similar to adult team tennis, but only two women and two men are required to make a team. Each round-robin match features men's and women's singles and doubles and one mixed doubles match.

Hawai'i's championship team also will have an opportunity to advance to the 2006 USA Team Tennis National Campus Championships, in April at the University of Texas in Austin. The last championship involved 48 teams from 47 schools.

USA Team Tennis on Campus is a partnership between the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), and the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA).
