Chun out at women's Public Links

Advertiser Staff

Jane Rah of Torrance, Calif., held off a furious rally by Pearl City's Mari Chun for a 2-up victory today in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links in Kansas City, Mo.

Chun, 17, a recent Kamehameha Schools graduate who will attend Stanford in the fall, was down five holes with five to play before storming back.

Chun birdied four consecutive holes to pull to within a hole of Rah heading into the 18th. But Rah birdied the final hole while Chun bogeyed.

The match was all square through six holes. But Chun then lost five consecutive holes from holes No. 7 to 12.

Rah birdied three of the holes during that span while Chun lost two holes with a bogey and double bogey.

Both parred the 13th, leaving Rah 5 up before Chun's birdie barrage from No. 14 to 17 closed the gap.

Chun was the co-medalist in the event.
