UH's Trapasso passed over for Oklahoma job

Advertiser Staff

Mike Trapasso will remain as baseball coach at the University of Hawai'i following the announcement this morning that Oklahoma has chosen to fill its vacancy with Sunny Galloway.

"I'm glad that it is over with and I'm glad to be back to work at a great place," Trapasso told The Advertiser from Los Angeles where he is attending a recruiting showcase.

Galloway had been the Sooners' interim coach for the final 18 games of the season following the resignation of Larry Cochell in May.

Trapasso, who heads into his fifth year at UH, was one of three candidates brought in for interviews and had been touted as the "odds-on" favorite earlier this week by the Oklahoman newspaper after Gene Stephenson, who had taken the OU job for 11 hours, returned to Wichita State Monday night.
