Kapolei library backers set book sale in August

The Friends of the Library of Kapolei will hold a special book sale in August.

The sale will be Aug. 20 next to the Kapolei State Library building and will include books of various genres, VHS tapes, audio cassettes, CDs, and computer software priced from 25 cents to $2.

The library also has a smaller collection of books available near the checkout desk in an ongoing sale.

Before it was fully stocked and officially opened last August, Kapolei was known as the "library with no books." The library was completed in 2002 but, with no money allocated for books, it remained closed for months. Then in 2003 it opened a small reading room stocked with donated books and operated by volunteers.

The two-story, 35,000-square-foot Kapolei library is the second largest library in the state and sits on land donated by the James Campbell Estate.
