By 10 this morning all 74 Transpac yachts will be on their way across the 2,225 miles to Honolulu. The last group to set sail from the starting point in Los Angeles are the fastest of the fleet, some of which have the potential to equal or break the record of 7 days, 11 hours, set by Roy Disney's Pyewacket in 1999.

Three of the earlier starters, in the race since last Monday, continued to lead the fleet across the Pacific yesterday.

The 58-foot yawl Odyssey was still out in front with 1,473 miles to go. Between The Sheets and Plan B trailed by 10 and 20 miles, respectively.

When the time allowance handicap was applied, the Division 4 boats that started Friday were dominating. Kahoots, a 47-foot sloop from Newport Beach, Calif., was first in Division 4 and first overall. Wind Impulse, a 40-footer from Santa Barbara, Calif., was second in class and second overall. Third in Division 4 and overall was a 56-foot sloop from San Francisco.

The corrected time standings:

Overall: Kahoots, Wild Impulse, Tabasco. Division 3: Bold, Artemus, Cipango. Division 4: Kahoots, Wild Impulse, Tabasco. Division 5: Soap Opera, Brown Sugar, B'Quest. Cal 40: Illusion, Callisto, Seafire. Aloha A: Odyssey, Between The Sheets, Plan B. Aloha B: So Far, Pipe Dream, Wild Dancer.
