Lingle names advisory councils

Gov. Linda Lingle has named 48 volunteers to six Neighbor Island councils that will advise her administration on issues of importance to their islands and ways to improve state government.
The councils are assigned to compile a list of issues and goals that should be addressed over the next five years, as well as to identify spending priorities and potential new sources of state revenue. Each council will hold monthly public meetings and seek comment from residents.
The governor established the councils of advisers in May though an executive order. The new councils build on the success of the four Neighbor Island advisory committees she established when she first took office, according to Lingle.
