Joey Macadangdang

Newly opened Pineapple Grill in Kapalua features "Pacific Island" cuisine

  • The Pineapple Grill has opened at the Bay Golf Course Clubhouse at Kapalua, with the kitchen under the direction of executive chef and partner Joey Macadangdang, formerly of Roy's Kihei. Philippines-born and Lahaina-raised, Maca-dangdang, right, is known for Asian-Filipino fusion dishes and has created a "Pacific Island Cuisine" menu for the restaurant, on the site of the old Kapalua Bar & Grill.

  • Two new eateries are open in Ala Moana Center's Makai Marketplace. Cheeseburger Factory (burgers of all kinds) and the Steak & Fish Co. (grilled meats and fish with sides) are owned by the Yummy Restaurant Group (Yummy Korean BBQ, Chow Mein Express).

  • Also at Ala Moana Center, construction has begun on Romano's Macaroni Grill, an Italian restaurant franchise operated by Randy Schoch's Desert Island Restaurants, in the old JC Penney location. It's the first of five Schoch plans to open here. Schoch, owner of Ruth's Chris Steak House at Restaurant Row, also will launch two new Ruth's Chris sites, in the Shops at Mauna Lani and in Waikiki in the Outrigger Beachwalk project.
