Former All-State soccer player Kami Kapaku, a sophomore forward for the University of Oregon, was declared academically ineligible for the 2005 season.

Kapaku, a 2004 Baldwin graduate, led the Ducks in scoring last season with four goals, and added one assist. She was the only freshman and one of two players to start all 19 games, and was tabbed the team's Offensive MVP at a year-end awards banquet as voted on by team members.

"Kami is a great person and a very talented player," said Oregon coach Tara Erickson on the school's Web site. "She would have played an important role on this year's team.

"Kami's got a tough road ahead to get back academically, but we'll give her all the support we can and hope to see her back on the field next year."

Another Hawai'i player will not be competing this season for the Ducks. Mele French (Mililani '02), who was supposed to be a senior forward, will not compete because of suffering too many concussions, according to Oregon assistant sports information director Greg Walker. She will continue with the team as a student assistant coach.

Two players from Hawai'i are expected to be on the Oregon roster next season — forwards Nicole Garbin (Baldwin '01 of Wailuku, Maui) and Sarah Yoro (Mililani '05).
